Television presenter, fashion designer, actress, model, brand ambassador—Megan Gale is doing it all. We caught up with fashion's ultimate all-rounder, who sizzled in this season's sleek, sultry ensembles.
How are preparations going for the next season of Project Runway? "They're going well. We're shooting it later this year. The beautiful thing is that we want people of all ages and all levels of experience to sign up because I think, while it's great to encourage and develop one talent, it's great to potentially find someone that's already out there who is perhaps battling to get their name and designs known, who previously hasn't been able to have a go. It's good to find someone like that and it makes a great show."
Have you maintained any relationships with previous contestants? "They haven't quite reached the stage of selling retail yet, but I follow Dylan, Johnny and Craig on Twitter and I saw Matcho a couple of days ago at Alex's [Perry] show."
You're incredibly multi-talented, is there anything out there you'd still like to try? "There are quite a few things…I really wish I had more time to dedicate to acting, I really do enjoy it. I find it such an interesting process and you learn a lot about yourself. That's definitely something that intrigues me. As well as that, I have a very strong passion for cooking healthy food, I'm very experimental and I think I'd love to ultimately write a book one day to encapsulate all the things I've learned with health, nutrition and beauty in an informative way. I've learned so many things through my travels, and through my industry. I like to think of myself as healthy-minded and a lot of it starts with nutrition and diet. I love creating recipes, creating beautiful, organic, healthy things to eat. I definitely see myself in the future, whether it's two or ten years, writing something and sharing with the public what I've learned experimenting with organic food myself, whether it's in blog- or book-form I would love to look at dedicating my time to this."
What are some of your favourite healthy recipes? "I love to make organic snacks so I might blend together dates, brazil nuts, pecan nuts, and walnuts, then blend them all together, roll them up into balls, and then [cover] in coconut. I'm not a massive sweet tooth, but I need a hit of sugar every now and then, so it definitely beats reaching for that chocolate bar. I'm definitely into juices and smoothies. I'll mix organic rice milk, banana, raw almonds and dates–which is filling and so nutritious and has a little bit of sweetness in it. In terms of main meals, I'll choose organic brown rice and marinate some salmon with it. I'm absolutely nuts for salmon. I'll get a salmon fillet and marinate it in organic sweet soy, organic balsamic and macadamia nut oil."
What do you think, are the key fashion pieces to invest in this season? "I think suiting is so popular at the moment, it's a great trend–it's classic and it's sharp. Suits are a powerful and sophisticated way for a woman to dress. Go for black or navy with a great white shirt. You can throw the jacket on with a pair of jeans, or suited pants with a tank top. Dress it up or down. I just think right now some Australian designers are doing suited tailoring so well and this trend is at the top of my list. Generally speaking, there are also a lot of great textures out there whether it's lace, leather or tweed, there's lots coming through. They're all quite classic too, so there's a good chance of them staying around. Fashion is cyclical so these things are great now, and will be great in the future."
Where do you get your inspirations for your swimwear collection Isola? "Travel for me is key in terms of inspiration and I'm lucky I have the opportunity to travel so much for work. The next collection is going to be very exotic, fun, and playful! I draw on ideal holiday locations from around the world, luckily they're plentiful!"
What are the most important things in your life? "I think health, happiness and loved ones are the most important things in my life. They're the core things. If you're healthy, you're blessed. If you have loved ones around you that's fortunate, and I'm lucky that health-wise I try and look after myself, and I want to be the best person for all the loved ones in my life and in my job as well. I try and show appreciation for my loved ones. Going through your own life being happy in your own existence is a big thing for me."
